Braving Atlanta

We went to Atlanta, Georgia for Presidents' Day Weekend. There were many things we wanted to see around that city and I felt like we always fly through, but we have never really spent time in that city. It's about a six hour drive from our house and Jesse's parents are halfway, so that made for the perfect stop on our drive both ways! We decided to purchase a city pass to gain access to several attractions at a reduced rate. We stayed at the Westin in downtown Atlanta so we could walk to many things located just a few blocks from our hotel. This particular hotel is the largest in the Western Hemisphere and is 73 stories high with a revolving bar and restaurant on top.

There are floor to ceiling windows in each room, so even when we were inside, we could enjoy the outside a bit! (I think we were on the 33rd Floor.) The boys played by the windows every chance they had.

Here are some day and night pictures...The Georgia Aquarium.

The view of Olympic Park, CNN, and The Georgia Dome.

A close-up of Olympic Park.

Here is Olympic Park from the ground. They have a splashpad right in the middle of it, directly over the rings. It wasn't running because it was too cold. There are flags from each country that has hosted the Games.

It was VERY COLD the weekend we were there. We tried to walk to the Georgia Dome to get a picture of Fletcher in his Falcons shirt with the dome, but turned around because the wind was just too strong and it just wasn't worth the effort when we could get his picture with the dome from our hotel room.

After a little down time in the room that Saturday, we decided to go up to The Sun Dial Restaurant...the revolving restaurant...at the top of the hotel. Here are some pictures from there. The Olympic Rings and Capitol Building.

Our family enjoying the relaxing happy hour lunch...everyone sitting around us was playing with Fletcher and making faces with Holden...until he fell asleep.

This is one of our favorite pictures...Holden sure was interested in Mommy's fruity cocktail! She also tried a Mint Julep, being that she was in Georgia. Daddy didn't sway from his Scotch.

After playing around and enjoying the afternoon, Holden went downhill. He fell asleep at the restaurant and we couldn't wake him up when we got back to the room. He started to get very warm. We ended up getting him up to give him medicine and he just fell back asleep. He had slept in our arms at the aquarium, Stone Mountain, and The World of Coca-Cola. He had rough nights each night at the hotel and Saturday night was rough again.

When we woke up and I took him into the light, I saw a gooey mess coming out of one of his ears. We were pretty sure it was another ear infection...just 10 days after getting tubes! So, we decided that a day out at the zoo in the cold weather wasn't going to help him at all and wasn't worth the effort on our part to force it. We packed up early and checked out before heading back home. We had used Starpoints for the room, so we weren't losing any money and in fact, that night was free anyway, so we weren't even losing Starpoints. Unfortunately, we didn't use the zoo entrance ticket from our city pass, so we wound up not saving money on that deal, but what could we do? It just wasn't worth it.

After lunch at the Oparent's house, this is what we saw on our way home...but there was no snow waiting for us at our house. Jesse was bummed he missed snow at our house once again this year, but I think he was happy with all that we did on our little trip to Atlanta!
