Nesting

You know, I didn't really do a bunch of nesting for Fletcher. I mean, I set up the bassinet and put some things in the dresser and had some diapers and wipes. I also put out some bottle stuff and bibs. But, we didn't really even do anything for what would become his room before he was here. The crib wasn't used for 3 months of his life and the computer remained in there even after we were using it, I think. We didn't paint and we added his name to the wall, but that was after he was born too.

This time around, we did some MAJOR nesting. Things felt crazy for a bit. I finally got our computer picture mess cleared up from the February 2009 incident and once we were done with that, we decided to give the computer to my aunt and her family because we made the switch from PC to Mac and wired to wireless. We moved the guest bed and night stands (which are actually end tables) up into the guest room upstairs because we intended the guest room downstairs to become Fletcher's new room and play room. (Since the bed and room switch was a disaster the last time I tried, I think we'll be making the guest room the new baby room and Fletcher will be keeping his room and getting the twin bed, but only time, trial, and error will tell!)

Since we moved the guest room furniture upstairs, we sold the extra guest bed that we had up there (along with several other items). We also added a desk and the new computer to that room. The bonus room up there still has a ways to go, but we've made some progress. It has been our storage/work out area for five years now. We switched the themes of our two guest bathrooms, so the kid theme (fish) is downstairs now and the guest theme (beach) is upstairs.

Downstairs, we decided to repaint the walls in the guest room...would be Fletcher's new room...will probably become the baby's room. Since we were painting, we decided to paint over the stripe we had wrapping around our master bedroom, but the colors didn't match despite the best effort, so we had to repaint the entire three walls, rather than the stripe area alone. We also painted the tray ceiling, which I had rag painted to begin with, so now it's solid.

One of these pictures show the blue color we painted over in the guest room to make it tan and brown in there. The other picture shows the stripe in our bedroom that we got rid of and the way the ceiling used to look. Now both the walls and the ceiling are solid.

In the midst of the moving and painting, we had to decide where wall hangings were going to go. I saw an idea in a magazine and attempted to replicate it on one of the walls. I think it's pretty neat and worked pretty well. But now, of course, we may be putting Baby #2's things on the basket shelves rather than Fletcher's, which will end up back in his room on the bookshelves.

And...since we were doing all of this, we decided to go ahead and replace our carpet at the same time! Out with the builder grade padding and light tan and in with the quality padding and speckled brown! It's amazing how different (and larger) the house seems to look with the new carpet.

Guest room, possibly Fletcher's new room or Baby's room before and then after new carpet.

There is still plenty to be done around here, but I'd say we've done quite a bit in preparation for the addition to this family! And, I forgot to mention that Fletcher was right in the middle of it all! He even decided to display his own artwork (pencil writing) on our wall.
