Disaster at Home

Fletcher's birthday marked a historic day around here. Fortunately, we weren't here or holding his birthday party that day because many people we know would have probably been in their cars, heading home if they had attended the party.

Here is the map of one of the tornadoes that touched down that day. I had heard there were 63 tornadoes that day, but am not quite sure.

This area is not known to have many tornadoes, if any. So when several touched down that day, the entire community was in shock.

As I said, we were out of town, but almost three weeks later, we happened to be in one of the hardest hit areas and I had my camera. These are pictures I was able to get on one of the main business roads (Yakin Road) and in one neighborhood. I felt bad taking pictures of people's damaged property, so I only went down one road and snapped some photos quickly. One woman stopped me to ask if I was her insurance agent and I got to talking with her. She went on and on about the damage and recovery ahead. It's just amazing how quickly everything can be taken from someone. I hope most of these people and businesses were able to come through it okay.

This is entering the neighborhood.

This is the only street I went down. The majority of the homes were either damaged or destroyed.

This shows how the trees were just snapped in half. See how short they are in the background?

All of these pictures are along one street in one damaged neighborhood.

Here are more snapped trees.

I spoke with the owner of this house.

Here are some of the damaged businesses along Yadkin Road.

The roof was missing off this business.
