Bye Bye Boy Sandwich

For the last few months I have been awake at various times throughout the night for obvious reasons. Most times I have fallen quickly back to sleep for the short intervals and other times, not so much. As I've let my mind wander while I go in and out of sleepiness, I have oftentimes chuckled at the boy sandwich I have found myself in. Jesse on one side and Fletcher on the other. Sometimes they have had a breathing contest to see who could possibly be the loudest. At times neither of them were the winner, but rather Knuckles would take the gold medal, sound asleep on her dog bed. At any rate, over the last several weeks, I have gotten used to and grown to love my boy sandwich, regardless of the racket it may have shared with me.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have thought hard about how I was going to accomplish the transfer from the bassinet into the crib, but I wanted to wait until he was close to three months old and of course, when things settled down from company. Everyone left on the 3rd. This week we've gotten into more of a routine, if not a solid one quite yet. Thursday night was a breaking point for me. I had a horrible night of sleep because Fletcher just has a way of keeping me awake even when he's not. It's hard when he's right next to me, getting caught up in his bassinet, kicking and flailing around, making all sorts of sounds. Although I'll miss some of the sighs, grunts, and cries, I won't miss the inexplainable times where I'm awake with him.

Friday night was the night we moved him from the bassinet into the crib for the first night. Hello six-and-a-half hours of sleep! Well, aside from me waking up to silence and whispering, "Jesse?...Jesse?" to see if he was awake to go check on Fletcher...to no avail. So I stayed in bed, not wanting to wake my baby before he was good and ready. So, it wasn't a solid 6.5 hours, but a long time nonetheless. And then back down again after feeding. Last night, he went to bed later and slept for just about 7.5 hours before I fed and changed him, and layed him back down. Things are going well, but the bassinet still stands...just in case...for the time-being. However, it's a fond farewell to my boy sandwich full of love and adoration!

Here's Fletcher when we first put him in the bassinet.

Here's him this last week and then the big move to the crib.

And, I thought you'd be interested to see the infant travel bed that he has been sleeping in when we've traveled. He's slept in this in Columbia and Charleston, SC, Raleigh and Kitty Hawk, NC, Minneapolis, MN, and will add Charlotte, NC to the list next weekend. Then, it'll be into the pack n play!
