I have been wanting to plant herbs for quite awhile (like years), and we finally did it! I went to a craft fair at a local lady's house and she had a ton of herbs out front. I asked her one question and it wound up being a half hour tutorial for me with a lot of information! I searched online and found this DIY project. When we went to Columbia for Mother's Day weekend, Jesse and his dad bought the wood we needed and used his dad's circular saw to cut it up. We brought it back home and the following weekend, we put it all together. Then I sanded and stained it and over a week's time, put in the underlayment, rock layer, soil, and herbs. We watched the sun exposure for a week and decided they needed more sun. So, then Jesse had to cut the legs down to six inches. Finally, he put on some finishing touches and voila...we have herbs growing on the front porch and I don't have to go out and buy a large packet every time I want some!
