The Big Texan

The place we ate that wasn't covered in the initial Amarillo post that deserves tacky tourist coverage is...The Big Texan! It really is world famous and sort of an "All American" stop when you're near Amarillo. You may have seen The Big Texan featured on various food or travel channels. We went there one night for dinner.

We posed for several pictures inside and outside.

We went into the gift shop where Fletcher wore many hats.

He waited patiently to be sat. (We went on a Thursday night and it was busy, but not as busy as it probably gets on the weekends.)

We showed him the steak dinner he could have for free if he tried really, really hard. If he didn't finish in 60 minutes, it would be a pricey meal for one.

He settled for simply looking at it and comparing the 72 oz. steak with the size of his hand.

Then we were sat and got to enjoy some roaming musicians and Fletcher also liked watching the bus boys because they got to clean things up and throw things away in a big rolling trash can.

We just had to order steak!

The waiter gave him a hat at the end of the dinner.

There was one person who was attempting the dinner challenge. I took a picture of him at the beginning and then at the midway mark, just before we left. The right picture shows what he had left. We went home, so we never did find out if he ate the whole meal or not. According to the menu, the record of eating the steak with all the sides and the drink is currently 8 minutes and 52 seconds!
