BOY...According to the at home IntelliGender test I took this morning.
I heard about this test and it's only carried by certain pharmacies. Well, the CVS nearest us does not carry it at all. The Rite Aid across the street from them only gets one test every other week and it sells the day it arrives. I went to the next Rite Aid and they get a truck delivered every week. We were there at delivery and stopped back by hours later to see if it was unloaded. Which, it was, but the shelves wouldn't be stocked until later that day. I went back the next day and one of the workers had just started stocking that aisle. After I asked him to look in the containers to see if one came on the truck, he informed me that it didn't. Days later, I stopped at a third Rite Aid on my way to the doctor and they had one on the shelf...that's the one I bought! Man, they're in high demand around here!
So, what is IntelliGender you might ask? Well, it's much like a home pregnancy test, but instead of two different symbols to decipher, you have two different colors to look for.
Here's how it works: You pee in a cup (using only your first pee of the morning), then you use a syringe to draw 20 ml from the cup. Meanwhile, there's another container that's basically a cup with a lid and in that container are teeny tiny pieces of glitter and confetti which you have to make sure are on the bottom of the cup. You place this container on a white surface and insert the syringe in a hole at the top, squirting your urine into the container. You swirl the container for 10 seconds, which I completely forgot to do! At the 5 minute mark, you look at the container and see if the liquid inside is dark green or orange. Green for boy and orange for girl. Mine was definitely green.
You can see the label has green and orange to use as a guide and I would say mine was definitely matching the "BOY!" green.
Of course, I didn't follow one of the steps in the process so this could be inaccurate. In addition, with things like this, they always leave room for error. We will wait until the ultrasound is done to identify the actual gender of Baby #2 before getting used to the idea of having another boy.
Sidenote: Just as I was typing the last sentence, Fletcher excitedly ran toward me babbling about his latest and greatest find around the house and guess what? It was the container filled with green liquid! UGH! (Note: I had discarded it in the waste basket in the bathroom...he just took it out of there. Nice.)
In other pregnancy news. I'm right at 17 weeks. I went to the doctor yesterday and the baby's heart rate was 136 and jumped to 144. I can't remember what they say about low vs. high rates. I think the higher it is, it's more likely to be a girl. Overall, I have gained 2 pounds since my first appointment at 8 weeks. I gained 4, but have lost 2 this last month. I have started wearing maternity clothes, which is earlier than last time, but there are so many things that seem different than last time and this is just one of them.
Final note: After writing and posting this (before this paragraph), I understood why they tell you to throw the container away in an outside trash can. I took it from Fletcher and threw it away in the kitchen. It didn't take long for the odor to consume the area. This resulted in my trying to get a grocery bag out of the pantry quickly and taking it to the bin by the curb. Oh...and I had to stop and vomit in the sink twice and again two times in our front yard. It was an absolutely disgusting smell. So, follow the directions and throw it away outside immediately! Don't go through what I did!
