90 Years and 9 Months

Almost a century spans our family. As Fletcher turns 9 months old, his Great Granny turns 90 this weekend. He is very lucky to have such a classy lady for a Great Grandmother. She is strong. She is educated. She is healthy. She is loving. She is honorable. She is priceless and I struggle to find words that do her proper justice. Can you imagine all of the changes she has seen in her lifetime? Being born in 1921, she has watched the world change in countless ways. Some for the better, some possibly not, but all changes in all areas of life. She has seen hard times and she has seen easier times. She has seen a significant amount in her time. Time and change. They continue generation after generation. The cycle keeps spinning. The world keeps changing. We are only here for a small portion of time when you think about it, but 90 years seems larger than a sliver of time.

Happy Birthday to Great Granny...Wife to one man in her life, until death did they part. Mother to three children, two boys and one girl who all grew and married, building lives of their own. Grandmother to five grandchildren who have become adults, swirling in the midst of life's changes themselves. Great-Grandmother to two young ones who don't even know the possibilities of the world awaiting them. Happy Birthday Great Granny. Happy 90th Birthday!

The pictures in this post were taken on July 17, 2010 when we were in Charlotte, NC to celebrate 50 years of marriage between Jesse's aunt and uncle. (An occasion I hope to post about at some point.) This was the first time Granny got to meet Fletcher. He was 3 months old at that time. The last picture shows the four generations. 90s, 60s, 30s, and 0's. I can't help but wonder what will happen in my next 30 years, and they'll undoubtedly go faster than my last 31...I could be in a generation photo and no longer be at the bottom or in the middle!

The following are pictures of the cards Fletcher sent Granny for her card shower. Since we knew she wouldn't want any large celebration, we wanted to shower her with cards in the mail on her special day.

And now I realize that it says "birthday wish you," rather than "birthday with you." Oh well!
